May 8th, 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting day in Milan, Michigan. The day gets started with the community 5k run and walk. Given the strong cross country and track tradition in the Milan school system, this race is sure to be an exciting one! But - if you're not a speed demon, don't worry, this event also welcomes walkers, strollers, pets to a nice tour around the heart of the city of Milan. Stick around after the race for the Milan Youth League Opening Day Baseball and Softball parade. There will also be food, street vendors, an Old Car Show and much more!
There is a Pancake breakfast on Main Street running from 8-11am - stop by and refuel after the run!
LOCATION: The 5k course will start and finish near Wilson Park located in the middle of the city of Milan, MI. There is ample parking around the city center - please refer to the maps for suggested parking locations. You can park at the Milan Middle School and walk down to the start. It is located on North Street a few blocks north of downtown Milan.
TIME: The race will start promptly at 7:30 am to allow plenty of time to complete the event and get ready for the Parade. Walkers will start together behind the runners.
CHECK-IN: Number pick-up and late registration will be held on race day from 6:00am to 7:00am.
COURSE: The race is run or walked from the start near the Milan Youth League at the end of Neckel Court, will take a single loop around the southwest corner of the city finishing on the soccer field at Wilson Park.
AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to the overall Male and Female runners and the top 3 finishers in each of the following age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65 & over. Awards can be picked up after the race results are tabulated - there will be no official award ceremony.
FACILITIES: Restrooms will be available at the start of the race in the Milan Youth League building.
RESULTS: Results will be posted on race day and available at this web site after the race.
T-SHIRTS: The first 200 registrants will be guaranteed shirts. The race organizers reserve the right to add more as the registration progresses.
